Why IVNT(Intravenous Nutritional Therapy)?

Harpenden Medical - Why IVNT

Our bodies are built to self-heal. However, they can only perform effectively, much like us, when they have all the necessary resources (nutrients). With the faster paced modern lifestyle of us all spinning so many plates, demands on the bodies’ nutrients are higher and are therefore depleted more quickly. Of course, eating nutrient dense healthy food daily will replenish these stores but when need exceeds input symptoms may develop. Symptoms are our bodies messenger. Our body is always trying to communicate with us, giving us subtle nudges towards what it needs, for example, feeling tired all the time, we are doing too much, and we are exceeding our reserves. We know this and we tend to ignore it for a bit and hope that a good nights’ sleep or a quiet weekend will restore us. In many cases this will be “exactly what the Dr ordered” but when symptoms persist, exploration about what more we can do to support our body and mind may be useful.

IVNT is a holistic modality and key component of Functional Health Medicine which is a systems-based, bottom up approach to health that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of dis-ease rather than just treating symptoms in isolation. It acknowledges that our bodies are an integrated system and not separate entities and thus need a holistic perspective to support the body as a whole. Health is more than just “not being sick” or “the absence of disease” it is about optimal health and vitality to be able to live our lives freely without hindrance or consequence, physically, mentally and emotionally. For example, the essential mineral Magnesium is used in over 300 enzymatic activities throughout the body, including; energy production, calming our nervous system and thus supporting mental wellbeing which allows us to rest or sleep more effectively leading to better restoration overnight. Magnesium is a pivotal medical treatment in Obstetric care for Pre Eclampsia and therefore much lower daily dosing can help support the reduction of blood pressure by facilitating vasodilation (relaxing of the vein walls).

Do I need a blood test to check my Vitamin and Mineral levels?

No, you don’t necessarily need to have a blood test before pursuing IVNT.
Most vitamins and minerals provided via IVNT treatment are “water soluble” meaning our body will regulate how much it takes on and how much it excretes via our Liver and Kidneys. Of course, if you have a medical history of Hepatic or Renal disease, then this will require assessment for suitability during your Nurse Consultation.

There are only 4 Fat soluble vitamins; A, D, E & K; that can build up due to the fact that they accumulate in our fatty tissues and therefore must be monitored. Here at Harpenden Medical we only provide Vitamin D as an injection which is only given when we have a recent blood test result.

What happens when you come and have an IV Consultation?

We will ask about what brought you here today? What is your current issue/concern?

Common issues that come up are relentless viral illness or an illness that you can’t shake off. This indicates that your stores of vital nutrients are low and resources aren’t enough to completely eradicate the virus/bacteria or lingering inflammation. In this instance we would recommend that you have the Multivitamin with added Vitamin C to replenish your levels so that your body can heal fully.
