Paediatrics

Dr Felicity Taylor, Consultant Paediatrician and founder of The Children’s Clinic offers regular consultations at Harpenden Medical by prior arrangement.  Felicity provides friendly and expert medical care for children from birth to 17 years inclusive.

Whether you require a one-time consultation or wish for your child to be seen annually by a Consultant Paediatrician, Felicity provides comprehensive care for all aspects of your baby or child’s health, development, and well-being.

During your child’s appointment, Felicity will take the time to listen, conduct a detailed examination, and work with you to create a personalised care plan. Any diagnosis will be clearly explained, and if further tests or follow-ups are needed, these will be discussed and agreed upon with you.

Felicity has extensive contacts within the paediatric healthcare sphere and can arrange onward referral to leading private sub-specialists or, if preferred, provide you with a comprehensive plan to take back to discuss with your family practitioner.

General Paediatric Appointments

General Paediatric Appointments are appropriate for any concern you may have about your child. They are ideal for addressing non-acute, chronic, or complex concerns and when you have more than one concern to discuss, or you’d like extra time to explore an acute problem in detail.

If you’ve previously consulted healthcare professionals about the same issue or are awaiting an NHS referral but prefer a faster option, this appointment can provide timely support. Additionally, all GP referrals are directed to a General Paediatric Appointment.

The appointment length for this service is 40 minutes.

Self-pay only – £210.

Any additional tests, including blood tests, come at an extra cost. This will be discussed with you in advance, allowing you to decide whether to proceed immediately or arrange them later or elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

You do not need a referral from your GP to arrange a private paediatrician consultation. As per national professional guidelines, Dr Taylor will arrange for details of the consultation to be shared confidentially with your regular GP, so that they are aware of any changes in your child’s medical needs.

As part of your child’s appointment, they will receive a comprehensive assessment including history and examination.  Simple investigations such as urinalysis and blood glucose tests are included. Any further required tests, including blood tests are at an additional cost: this will be discussed with you and you can make the decision whether to proceed with these or arrange them at a later date or elsewhere. Any necessary prescriptions will be provided included as part of the appointment fee: the dispensing fee for the item will need to be settled directly with the dispensing pharmacy.

For child safeguarding reasons, an adult with parental responsibility must accompany their baby or child to the appointment.  Our Private Paediatrician, Dr Taylor is able to see young people aged 16 years and over in confidence without a responsible adult present.
