Harpenden Medical Clinic provides ear care services including ear Microsuction which is the gold standard treatment for the removal of ear wax or infective debris from the ear. We use the latest technology in Microsuction which is the safest and most comfortable way to remove ear wax and any infective debris.
No water is used during this process, which reduces the risk of infection and damage to the eardrum. The procedure uses gentle suction to remove wax from the ears. Using specialist equipment, our highly trained clinicians are able to assess the ear canal and remove wax.

Will the procedure be painful?
No, the Microsuction technique is painless and most patients find the procedure comfortable.
How long does the procedure take?
This will depend on whether you are having one or both ears treated, and weather your ear wax is hard. Generally the procedure, including assessment, will take between 20-30 minutes.
Is this procedure suitable for everyone?
There are some people for whom microsuction may not be suitable, your clinician will undertake an assessment to determine your eligibility. If you have any of the following conditions, you may not be suitable.
- Patients have experienced difficulties with the procedure in the past.
- A history of severe dizziness.
- Patients are unable to keep their head still or who are prone to unpredictable head movement Patients who have a sensitivity to loud noise (Hyperacusis).
