Cryochamber
Prepare for an invigorating experience when you step inside our state-of-the-art cryochamber.
The benefits of Cryochamber therapy
While cryotherapy is popular for athletes with injuries, its benefits extend far beyond the sports world.
Controlled exposure to freezing temperatures can enhance the well-being of your entire body and mind, making it a versatile solution for various health concerns.
The subzero temperatures in cryotherapy boost circulation, reduce inflammation, and release mood-enhancing endorphins, providing an immediate uplift to one’s well-being.
Studies suggest that inflammation may be linked to a variety of health concerns, including low mood, so our cryo chamber may be helpful in the following ways:
- Reducing swelling and pain from injuries
- Aiding recovery from exercise, injury and illness
- Relieving joint pain caused by arthritis and injury
- Improving mood and lowering stress levels
- Improving sleep
- Increasing collagen production to smooth and firm ageing skin
- Enhancing immune function
If you are looking for a powerful boost to your well-being, why not try cryotherapy yourself?
Cryochamber therapy at Harpenden Medical
Whole-body cryotherapy is a comfortable and safe way to benefit from subzero temperatures.
The air in the cryochamber is dry and our personalised booths are designed for your comfort.
Cold air will be pumped into the cryochamber at intervals until the optimum lowest temperature is reached. Patients reap the most benefit from temperatures between -85 and -140 degrees Celsius.
A staff member will be present throughout your whole-body cryotherapy treatment to ensure your comfort and monitor your response to the cold.
Your cryotherapy session will last around three minutes and leave you feeling rejuvenated.

Frequently asked questions
Is cryotherapy beneficial for everyone?
Studies show cryochamber sessions can benefit many conditions, including sports injuries, arthritis, and low mood. Many athletes use a cryochamber to recover after competitions or intensive training.
Does cryotherapy hurt?
Cryotherapy is not a painful procedure, but exposure to freezing temperatures can be challenging, as we are used to protecting ourselves against the cold. Our patients find that they tolerate the cold better after a few treatments.
Is it safe to use a cryochamber?
Cryotherapy is a safe procedure for most people, and many of our patients enjoy the benefits of using the cryochamber.
We take a medical history from our patients, and if you are pregnant or have certain health conditions, we may advise you against having cryotherapy.
If this is the case, we can suggest other clinic treatments to improve your health and well-being.
How does cryotherapy compare to cold water therapy?
A session in a cryochamber is much pleasanter than an ice bath.
The low temperature in the cryochamber is gradually reached without the icy shock you experience when stepping into freezing water. The technology used in the cryochamber ensures that the temperature levels are carefully controlled, providing a secure and comfortable environment for your session.
How long does a cryotherapy treatment session last?
You will stay in the cryochamber for about three minutes.
How many cryochamber sessions will I need?
Research suggests that 10 sessions over a few weeks give optimum benefits. Most patients choose to have one or two sessions a week.
How fast does cryotherapy work?
You will feel invigorated after your first session, but the effects of cryotherapy are cumulative and your health and well-being will improve after every treatment.
What shall I wear to my cryochamber session?
We provide protective gloves, masks, and headbands and recommend wearing comfortable shorts, sports tops, or just underwear.
Can I use the Cryochamber alongside training and exercise?
Many of our patients use cryotherapy to recover more quickly after exercise so that they can return to competing or training.

Testimonials
What our patients say...
I visited Harpenden Medical following a series of heart-related issues. I have seen various GPs and been prescribed different medications but didn’t see any improvement.
After speaking with Dr Jollyman, for the first time in years I feel I am finally being listened to and given the right advice. I feel better already after a few short weeks of treatment and I look forward to seeing more results.
Louise
A beautiful clinic, on truly stunning grounds.
I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Harpenden Medical Clinic and have booked further treatments on recommendation after a discovery call to explore my health concerns. I can’t wait to go back!
