Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis or poor bone density can increase your risk of painful fractures in later life.
Our holistic approach combines regular screening, lifestyle and fitness advice and supplements to help you maintain an active lifestyle. Your future bones will thank you!
The Benefits of Osteoporosis Assessment and Treatment at Harpenden Medical
Our assessment and state-of-the-art diagnostic testing, Hologic Horizon® DXA System can detect low levels of bone density (osteopenia) before osteoporosis develops, allowing you to boost your bone density.
If your bones are already affected by osteoporosis (poor bone density), our medical professionals will prescribe treatments, supplements, and exercise regimes to keep you fit and active.
Bone Density Risk Factor Assessment
You will discuss your personal risk factors with one of our medical professionals.
Risk factors for osteoporosis include age, diet, alcohol consumption, genetics and any history of fractures.
Your doctor may also check your Vitamin D levels, which are essential for bone health.
Collecting this information will help your doctor to assess the probable state of your bone density.
Diagnosing Osteoporosis
We use the Hologic DXA Scanner, which uses the most advanced low-level X-ray technology to provide a detailed analysis of bone health.
The Hologix is an open scanner which passes over you as you lie on a treatment couch. The scan only takes a few minutes and is a relaxing experience.
Treatment for Low or Poor Bone Density

Frequently asked questions
Are DXA scans only for women?
Men have more bone mass than women and lose it at a slower rate. However, men over 70 may find testing useful, especially if they have a number of the risk factors for osteoporosis.
How long will the scan take?
The scan takes minutes, but your appointment will be longer to allow time for the scanner to be prepared and for you to make yourself comfortable.
Is a DXA scan claustrophobic?
No, the scanner is open with an arm that passes over your body.
Price
From £ 200 per scan
Testimonials
What our patients say...
I visited Harpenden Medical following a series of heart-related issues. I have seen various GPs and been prescribed different medications but didn’t see any improvement.
After speaking with Dr Jollyman, for the first time in years I feel I am finally being listened to and given the right advice. I feel better already after a few short weeks of treatment and I look forward to seeing more results.
Louise
A beautiful clinic, on truly stunning grounds.
I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Harpenden Medical Clinic and have booked further treatments on recommendation after a discovery call to explore my health concerns. I can’t wait to go back!
