Asthma / COPD
Asthma typically starts during childhood and involves chronic inflammation of the airways. It often presents with wheezing, shortness of breath and coughing. Triggers can include allergies or respiratory infections.
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) refers specifically to chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or both. It is more common among adults who smoke and causes difficulty in breathing due to airflow obstructive. Sometimes there’s an overlap between asthma and COPD known as “asthma-COPD overlap syndrome” (ACOS) but they remain distinct condition.
